What is SAS 70?

Service organizations that provide critical outsourcing services such as hosted data-centers or credit processing companies need to have effective internal controls ensuring adequate protection, security and operation of client services. SAS 70 defines the standards that an auditor must employ in order to assess these controls with regards to the contracted services. The requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 makes SAS 70 audit reports even more important to the process of reporting on the effectiveness of these controls and processes.
